Irish Notes 12th April 2004.
Patsy Keenan, originally from Monaghan and now based in Atlanta,
Georgia is flying home to compete on this weekend's Wicklow
Forestry in his Lancer. Patsy was originally only going to do a
couple of events but is enjoying the forestry series so much he
plans to take in 6 rounds. This weekend's Wicklow event, based at
Glendalough, is round 3.
Donemana's Sean Devine, well respected for his speed in GpN, is
moving up to an ex Daniel Doherty Impreza WRC, but will also keep
using his Impreza N9 for the Dunlop National series, keeping the
Impreza WRC for Pirelli Tarmac Championship events.
Eamonn Boland has entered for the 25th April Monaghan Stage
Rally, 2nd round of the Dunlop National Championship in a
Mitsubishi. He has also entered for the Killarney Rally of the
Lakes.
Niall Maguire withdrew his entry from the Circuit of Ireland in
order to concentrate on his home Monaghan Rally.
Stephen Harron is to drive a Millington engined rear wheel drive
Tigra on the NI Stage Championship and has been carrying out
suspension development with Proflex. Stephen is one of the top
entries on the popular Fivemiletown Forestry Stage Rally this
Saturday.
Derek McGarrity has confirmed that he is indeed bringing in a
Peugeot 206 WRC to Ireland this week. The car is reportedly
entered for the Killarney Rally of the Lakes, but no confirmation
as to the identity of the driver is so far forthcoming.
Magherafelt MC is being backed by Sperrin Tourism for their 22nd
May Sperrins Stage Rally, round 4 of the NI Championship. Well
known competitor Philip Shaw is the Clerk of the Course, and he
reports that the stages have been smoothed and improved beyond
recognition, and they are hoping to attract both cross channel
and southern Irish drivers.
Donegal's Brian Doherty has acquired the ex works Gwyndaf Evans
Escort Maxi. Doherty, last year's National and Border F2
Championship winner, hopes to have the car ready for the Monaghan
stages.
