Irish Notes 09.02.04.

Happily the Donegal International Rally reports that Shell is backing the event again, to make it a unique 21 year involvement. Donegal Oil is also associated with the rally, 4th round of the Pirelli Tarmac Championship, and scheduled for the 18th - 20th June.

Willie Walsh has been working hard over the winter laying the ground works for this year's Irish Forestry Championship, which will feature more awards, more classes and a new rally in Monaghan. A driver's best 6 out of 7 scores will count and the series begins with the Carrick on Suir based 22nd Feb. Wm Loughmann Memorial Rally.

The Ford of Ireland KA Championship this year will have three rounds on the forestry Championship, and in addition there will be a special class catering for KA's throughout the series.

Derry building contractor Kevin Watson has taken delivery of the ex Karamjit Singh Production WRC Lancer and will debut it on the 28th Feb Davagh Stages Rally, in preparation for the Easter Circuit of Ireland.

Pat Norris has bought a McKinstry GpA Impreza, the same car that Robbie McGurk took to victory on the Toshiba Rally, to campaign the Irish Forestry series.

Seamus Donnelly took victory on last weekend's GMW Stage Rally at Tardree from Brendan O'Hagan. 

Safety was high on the agenda on last weekend's Galway International Rally. One stage was cancelled in its entirety because spectators at a big jump over a railway bridge would not co-operation, and another stage was cancelled following the passage of approximately 12 cars when the lead drivers reported spectators "on the line".
