Irish Notes 12th May '04

Killarney Lakes was the 2nd round of the 023 Tiles Championship, and Johnny O'Sullivan (Escort WRC) has now moved into the points lead, with Alan Ring (Impreza N) 2nd and Barry Coleman (Impreza WRC) 3rd.

Last Sunday's Carlow Rally was a round of the Ford of Ireland Ka Championship. Daniel Barry took maximum points from Brian O'Mahoney, with Kieran Daly 3rd.

Leitrim's Sean Gallagher has acquired the ex Patrick Elliot Impreza WRC and intends to try the car on a forthcoming National event. Sean has driven his ex John Gilleece Escort Cosworth to some outstanding results over the last few seasons and at one point led the Dunlop series with it last year. He intends keeping the Escort in the meantime until he sees how he gets on with the Subaru.

Dungiven's Kevin Lynch (Impreza WRC) has an opportunity this weekend to extend his lead in the McCauley Trailers Southern Forestry Championship. His main Championship rival Brian Murphy will be co-driving for Austin McHale on the Rally of the Wales International.

The Cork Forestry rally is based in Middleton and GpN should be a feature, with defending Champion John Shanahan coming under increasing pressure from Stephen Moore and Patrick Elliott. Patsy Keenan again makes the trip from the USA while former front runner Hugh Dunne promises a return.
