Irish
Notes 19th July 2004.
Denis Biggerstaff (Subaru) is just
one of the Irish drivers to enter this Sunday’s Knockhill
Rally, the day following the McRae Stages.
Colm Murphy, one of Ireland’s most
attacking drivers, is trying to put a deal together for Seamus
Leonard’s Impreza N10 for the Manx International. 29 year
old Colm, from Limerick, has been driving an older model GpN
Impreza this season but has had to drive the door handles of
the car to be competitive, although he has set some fastest
GpN times in the Tarmac Championship events.
Paddy White’s new Prodrive built
RHD Impreza WRC won’t be ready for the Manx International,
the Navan man now setting his sights on the Ulster Rally.
Niall Maguire, currently with a
strong advantage in the Dunlop National Championship, has
entered his Impreza WRC in the 14th August Triton
Showers Lurgan Park Rally.
This weekend’s Cork Forestry Rally,
penultimate round of the McCauley’s Trailer Championship,
has a top class entry. Besides series regulars Kevin Lynch,
Kevin O’Kane and Pat Norris, Kieran Shaw, Glenn Allen,
Robbie McGurk and Dominic McNeill are making the trip from the
North. McGurk will drive Brian Murphy’s Impreza. The rally
breaks with the forestry series pattern by running 12 stages
over 2 days, starting from Mallow at Saturday lunchtime.
Sean Devine took his Impreza WRC to a
clear victory on last Saturday’s Lark in the Park Rally,
with Camillus Bradley and Damien Gallagher, both driving
Escorts, 2nd & 3rd from the 115
starters. Gavin Harris won GpN in a Lancer.
Enfield’s Tom Holton (Celica)
finished 10th and best of the Irish contingent on
last weekend’s BHV Expo Groep Rally in Holland. Sebastian
Stackpoole finished further back in his Lancer, while Ollie O’Donovan
had been as high as 2nd in his Impreza WRC but was
caught out on the 10th stage in a tremendous rain
storm and lost over 10 minutes.
Michael Curran scored his first
outright victory on the 12th July Bishopscourt
Clubmans Rally, driving his father Dickie’s GpN Lancer.
Brian Patterson.
