Irish
Notes 18th Oct. 04.
Brendan Crealey’s role as Lancer
GpN front runner on the ANCRO series comes to an end with this
weekend’s Bulldog. Brendan has just been to Greece with an
eye on acquiring the John Papadimitriou Impreza WRC. Having
won GpN again this year, the former British Junior Rally
Champion would dearly love to have a crack at the overall
ANCRO title next year.
Monaghan’s Niall Maguire did enough
on last weekend’s Donegal Harvest Rally to win the Quinn
Border Championship. David Leonard, who drove a Nova on the
class-based series, just lost out in a tie-break. Shane Feeley
(Peugeot 106) was 3rd. Paul McLaughlin co-drove
Maguire’s Subaru to the win. Second placed co-driver was Jim
McGrath and 3rd was Jason McKenna.
Glenn Allen, co driven by Brian
McCracken in their Mk2 Escort, won last weekend’s System
Signs Enniskillen Clubman Rally. Seamus O’Connell (Escort
BDA) and Frank Kelly (Mk2 Escort) both finished on 29m46s,14s
down on Allen, the tie decider going in favour of O’Connell.
Damien & Fabian McAleer from the
Drumharvey Service Station in Irvinestown supplied, free of
charge, all the refreshments for marshals and officials on the
Enniskillen Clubman Rally, they also competed in their Corolla
and finished 34th overall.
Dublin based Cavan man Willie Fannin
has already won the inaugural Patterson RallyNews Group N
award in the Dunlop National series, but will complete his
successful season by contesting the final Fastnet round this
weekend in his Subaru, with Brian Duggan co-driving.
Fannin is also joint leader of the
023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship, along with Johnny O’Sullivan
(Escort WRC) and Alan Ring (Impreza N), all three on 43
points, with the Fastnet event being the final round. First
man home takes the title. However, Liam McCarthy and Denis
Cronin can also win the championship if they finish 2 places
in front of the leading trio. When dropped scores are taken
into account, Championship sponsor James O’Sullivan (Evo 7)
is still in contention, just 5 points in arrears.
James M Stafford, co driven by James
F Stafford, took his Nova to victory on last weekend’s GSMC
stage rally based at Baltinglass. Terence O’Shaughnessy/Ned
Doherty (Corolla) finished 2nd, 35s behind
Stafford, with Seamus Doyle/John Rafter (Escort) a further 6s
back in 3rd place. The rally was the 2nd
round of the new Irish Peugeot 205 Challenge and Graeme Colter/Jack
Newman came out the victors.
