Irish
Notes 28th February 2005.
Meath man Pat
Donegan took his Escort to a brilliant win on last Sunday's
high profile Meteor Elecrical Titanic Rallysprint, with
Niall McShea 2nd, Gwyndaf Evans 3rd,
Charlie and Eugene Donnelly 4th and 5th,
all in various Escorts.
Ray Breen
took his Focus WRC to a start to finish victory on last
weekend's Laois Stages Rally. This was a major and maiden
victory for the popular Waterford based businessman, who
scored fastest on 7 of the 8 stages.
National
Champion Niall Maguire, utilising the Laois event as a warm
up for the start of the Dunlop backed series in Mayo next
weekend, was 2nd in his Impreza WRC. West Cork
man Liam McCarthy, also in a Subaru, was 3rd.
Alan Ring won GpN very convincingly in his Impreza N11.
Philip
Morrow's supporters were devastated when he was excluded
from 1st GpN on last weekend's Sunseeker, after a
fabulous battle with Stuart Jones. It transpired that the
intercooler on Morrow's machine, which had been in the car
since he bought it two years ago, was not the correct one,
although it would have given no performance gain. In an act
of true sportsmanship, Stuart and his father 'Mad Mick' gave
Morrow their £500 parts voucher prize from Mitsubishi to
help him obtain the correct parts.
Emma
McKinstry makes her 2nd competitive appearance in
her recently acquired GpN Lancer at this Saturday's
Bishopscourt stage event, round 2 of the NI Championship. On
the series opener at Kirkistown 2 weeks ago, the Banbridge
girl was 2nd in GpN and running in the top 10
early on in the event, to eventually finish 18th
o/a, 5th in GpN.
Current
overall NI champion Kevin Lynch in his Impreza WRC will be
defending his position at Bishopscourt following his 1st
round win at Kirkistown, from Cathal Arthurs (Hyundai WRC).
Kieran
Graffin borrowed Garry Jenning's GpN Lancer and duly won
last Saturday's Aghadowey stage rally, from Seamus Donnelly,
also in a GpN Lancer.
Seamus
O'Grady, co-driven by Barry Sheridan, won round 5 of the
Irish 205 Challenge through the snow of Sweet Lamb last
weekend. The final round of the series is this Sunday on the
Willie Loughman forestry event at Carrick on Suir. O'Grady
or Graeme Colfer can take the title.
Gareth McHale,
with Paul Nagle co-driving the 'family' Corolla WRC, is set
to mount a challenge on the Irish forestry Championship,
starting with this weekend's Wm Loughman event. 24 year old
Gareth's 7th o/a on the recent Galway Tarmac
Championship opener gave ample notice that he can certainly
handle a WRC machine. Tom Hogan Motors and Garyarron Homes
are providing the backing.
Kevin O'Kane
is the No.1 seed for the Willie Loughman Forest Rally in his
Impreza WRC, with Glen Allen at No.2, Pat Norris at 3, John
McCarthy at 4, Dermot Kelly 5 and James Murphy at 6. Gareth
MacHale is seeded at 7 with the first of the Group N cars,
Stephen Moore in his Impreza at 8.
Regards,
Brian Patterson.
