Irish Notes 26th January

Tim McNulty has confirmed his deal to take delivery of a new Prodrive Impreza WRC S10 and intends to make a full assault on the Pirelli Tarmac Championship, starting with the Galway International. Tim led the final round of the Tarmac last season in Cork until delayed, and must be one of the favourites for this year's title. Eugene O'Donnell will co-drive.

The Titanic Superspecial stage rally scheduled for 27th February in Belfast will have a specially designed 'head to head' track and a 'flyover'. As well as Niall McShea agreeing to compete, the Meteor Electrical backed event, especially for 2WD cars, is also supporting Niall in his efforts to finalise funding for his WRC effort this season.

Jimmy McRae, Billy Coleman, Kenny McKinstry and Eugene Donnelly are just some other top drivers listed to appear at the Titanic. McShea started his year in style by winning the NI Motorsport Personality of the year title.

Garry Jennings has acquired Kieran Graffin's Evo 6 and intends competing on the Galway International. James O'Brien will co-drive. Former Peugeot works driver Garry has no firm plans for the year, the Ballinamallard man concentrating for now on building up his oil distribution business.

18 year old Conor McCloskey, son of Brian McCloskey of Woodland Furniture, will be contesting the Evo Challenge in an ADR Evo 8. Testing this week at Sweet Lamb with Brendan Crealey. Damien Duffin will co drive. Also intends to contest Wyedean and KallKwik.

Crumlin's Keith White has sold his very potent rear wheel drive Escort Cosworth to Seamus McCusker. Keith White has been one of the quickest men in NI in two-wheel drive over recent years, and often put drivers in much more powerful 4WD cars to shame. Just one of his achievements was winning the 2WD category in Lurgan Park for the last 7 years. Unfortunately Keith has had to take a back seat due to illness.

Maurice Gass, co-driven by his son Darren, took his Impreza WRC to victory at Kirkistown last Saturday, Nigel Hicklin 2nd in his Octavia WRC and Denis Biggerstaff (Impreza WRC) 3rd.

This Sunday's Sligo Stage event, where local man Dominic McLaughlin is top seed, features the 4th round of the Irish 205 Challenge, and with three different winners so far, Niall O'Connell, Graeme Colfer and Adrian McElhinney, promises close competition. There is increased prize money for the 205 Challenge thanks to extra backing from MCD Trailers of Donegal.  Regards, Brian Patterson.
