IRISH NOTES 3RD OCTOBER 05

Arthur & Roger McMahon of Donegal Oil Company have arranged for 2 WRC refuelling equipment rigs to be brought to Rally Ireland . One for the St Angelo service and also a remote unit.  There will be 5 different Shell fuels available to the competitors including racing diesel.  Arthur McMahon commented. "It is costing quite a lot of money but its all about safety and controlled environment for the re-fuelling. Perhaps if other rallies see the equipment in action and see its advantages they may go for it as well".

Kevin Lynch is in the top 10 for Rally Ireland, but hasn't competed on a tarmac rally for quite some time so took his Impreza WRC to the Aghadowey stage rally last Saturday and scored a convincing win from Sean Devine.  Kevin's usual 2 co drivers, Francis Regan and Gordon Noble, are both occupied on Rally Ireland, Regan co driving for Eamonn Boland, Noble in an official capacity so the quest is on for a replacement co-driver for next week.

In the Northern Ireland championship following the Bushwhacker Rally Kevin Lynch has secured his 2nd Northern Ireland Championship title. Neil McCance leads Group N in the championship despite retiring from the Bushwhacker and has a 4 point advantage over John McGlaughlin when dropped scores are taken into account. Martin Elliott had a strong run on the Bushwhacker and he is only 2 points behind McGlaughlin which should make for an exciting showdown on the Toshiba Rally, the final round in Co. Antrim.

McGrady Insurance has been announced as title sponsor for the newly created Down Rally scheduled for Saturday the 26th November based at Newcastle 's Slieve Donard Hotel. The event will include 6 forest stages with at least 30 stage miles.

Paul Harris heads the entry for this weekend's Donegal Harvest Rally. However Paul damaged his Subaru on the recent Clare event and hopes to hire another car for this weekend. Eugene Donnelly is the No.2 seed and is due to drive the ex Maurice Gass Fabia WRC while Patrick Elliott is at 3 in an Impreza WRC. Local man Hugh Martin Doherty is at 4 in his Impreza WRC. Niall Maguire at 5 in an Impreza WRC and James Gillen at 6 in a Group A Impreza. The event is based in Bunbeg and consists of 9 tough tarmac stages.
