Several of the top Irish GpN drivers, including Seamus Leonard and Cahal Rogers and Emma McKinstry, are considering tackling a mainland European event before the end of the year, with Tour of Flanders high on the list for consideration.

The Shell Donegal rally was a round of the West Euro Cup as well as the Tarmac series, and Mark Higgins now tops the points, with Andreas Mikkelsen 2nd, Eugene Donnelly 3rd and Lorna Smith 4th.

This weekend’s ALMC Multi Stages Rally, based at The City North Hotel, on the M1 outside Dublin, is a round of both the Sleator Auto Rally Championship and Rory Galligan’s Peugeot 205 Challenge. Martin Doherty, Kenny McKinstry, Melvyn Evans, Jack Sleator, Hugh Martin Doherty and Paddy White, all in WRC machines, are the top seeds.

Killarney’s Donie O’Sullivan was more than an interested spectator on the Ypres Rally, as along with his engineer Clive Taylor he spent several days in discussion with both Fiat and Peugeot representatives regarding the possibility of his S-Tec Motorsport company preparing at least one of the new S2000 cars for use in Ireland.

Following last weekend’s Ravens Rock Rally, the position at the top of the 023 Tiles Southern Four Championship is far from clear. Michael Barrable seemed poised to move to the top of the points table, but his exclusion and Aaron MacHale being declared the winner moves the ball into former Champion Denis Cronin’s court as he scored maximum points, with Kevin O’Donoghue and James Stafford still very much in the picture. Barrable, who won the opening West Cork round, is believed to be launching an appeal against his exclusion, so the position remains fluid.

Kenny McKinstry is planning a Canadian trip in August, but is trying hard to schedule in the Turkington Holdings Lurgan Park Rally (11th August). Kenny, a ten times winner in Lurgan Park, considers the event one of his all times favourites. The eight stages for the rally have been slightly modified, otherwise the event is being organised broadly the same as before, with a Mk2 Challenge, which Phil Collins has committed to, and centralised servicing all within the environs of Craigavon Borough Council’s Lurgan Park.
