RALLY NEWS NO.2 Garrison/Service/Saturday/Noon

UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 1 Ballintempo
1st (2) Sean Devine/Damien Duffin (Impreza WRC) 4.32
2nd (3) Stephen Moore/Tony McHugh (Focus WRC) 4.34

We have just 2 meaningful times from the opening stage of this Lakeland Rally as third car into the stage, the Subaru of Raymond Johnston, went into a ditch at 2.6 miles. Raymond’s accident happened at a crest and downhill into a square right into a chicane. His new Subaru ended up in the bog and although it did not seem like a big accident co driver Richard Bell hurt his neck.

Ivan Fisher was amongst those at the scene and he reinforced the view that medical services should be called in just to make sure that Richard was OK. The following drivers were slowed or stopped momentarily at the scene so the times for these do not mean a lot, and then the stage was stopped anyway.

Sean Devine and Stephen Moore did have a clear run. Devine going particularly hard through the stage and he commented at the stage finish. “It was very loose and very slippy”. Stephen Moore said. “I was too slow through the fast corners but otherwise OK”.

Early news from the Wexford Rally is that after the first couple of stages Eamonn Boland was 16s up on Gareth MacHale. Stephen Murphy, Michael Barrable and James Stafford were non-starters. Still awaiting times for Melvyn Evans and a few other top drivers.
