Through stage 3 Mark Higgins was again fastest, by exactly 1 second from Kevin Lynch with Kenny McKinstry a further 2s down in the stage. That is the pattern now, Mark has a 6s lead and it is a matter of the British Champion just keeping it all neat and tidy and avoiding mistakes. Kevin Lynch said. “Its not over yet, we’ve still a few things to try”. While Kenny McKinstry admitted. “I was untidy, dropped time”. In overall terms the tracks here through Lurgan Park are still damp and greasy, very slippery. One driver who has paid the price is Denis Biggerstaff, who most uncharacteristically has put his Subaru off the road. Happily Denis and co driver Robin McCandless are OK and there doesn’t appear to be any real damage to the car.

Niall McShea is running 4th on the road and is still having a small problem with his Lancer brakes binding up. The car had new discs and pads before the start. Garry Jennings was fastest Group N driver through that stage 3, Garry saying that they took the air filter off the car and blew out some dust and gravel from Donegal and perhaps that made a slight difference. Michael Curran was very close to Gary’s time, as was Niall McShea and John McGlaughlin, so there is definitely a big race between the group N guys.

Scottish visitor Neale Dougan had a steadier run that time and has come back into the top 10. Charlie Donnelly put his Corolla on to the grass after the bridge, and that wee mistake has cost Charlie another second or two and keeps in 4th place. Richard Hogg had a slight spin and dropped a couple of seconds. Nigel Worswick is struggling to stay inside the top 10, but really doing very well although he dropped a couple of seconds in stage 3.

Emma McKinstry is finding her Impreza WRC a bit hesitant and one of the mechanics has nipped back to their Banbridge base for a new ECU to see if it will gee up the anti lag device. Maurice Gass has got his ex Peadar Hurson Impreza on the pace at last having lost a few seconds through the opening stages with gearbox trouble. Derek McGeehan was another to have a good run but there is some problem with his time card, so although he is being shown as 11th o/a at the minute that may possibly change. Darren Gass is having a problem getting the power down with his little C2 Super 1600 Citroen and he’s spinning wheels everywhere. Kris Meeke is in trouble with his Escort – the engine keeps dying and Kris is afraid of doing any damage, so he’s not pushing it and may well retire after this stage. Wesley Patterson is having no such worries and he’s the fastest Mk2 Escort so far.
