Starting Day 2 of this Cork 20 International Rally Eamonn Boland has a 21s lead
over Derek McGarrity with Austin MacHale a further 17s back meaning there is
still a lot to play for over today's 6 special stages. The character of
the roads change somewhat from yesterday, today's stages being much more fast
and flowing, much of it through farmland, so hopefully the weather stays dry, as
any rain at all will make the going slippy in the extreme.
Various class leaders include - Denis Cronin leading cl.12 in his BMW M3 and Ray
Breen class 13 in his 6R4. John Moynihan is 2nd in class 12 to Denis
Cronin. Dominic McNaughton 3rd. James O'Sullivan leads class 11 from David
James, 023 Tiles man O'Sullivan had a good run yesterday, while James was
hampered by some small mechanical glitches. Wesley Daly leads cl.10 in his
Escort from John Sinclair in his Toyota Starlet. Martin Browne leads class
2 in his Civic and is a long way ahead of Ed O'Neill, 2nd in class in another
Civic. Guy Woodcock leads cl.7 in his Escort Maxi. Martin Kirwan class 6
in his Renault Clio and that was despite panic at the parc ferme on Saturday
morning when the car refused to fire up. Keith McQuillan leads cl.3 in his new
model Civic. Kenneth Mulvaney leads cl.1 in his Ford Ka from Emily
O'Mahony in her Ford Ka. John Foley is the highest placed Ford Ireland Focus
championship contender with Colm Murphy back into 2nd following his off road
excursion. David Delaney 3rd and Oliver Stanley 4th. Martin Sheehan leads
cl.9 in his Starlet and Alyn Spiers leads cl.5 in his Suzuki Swift. Martin
Ward leads the Historics in his Manta with Sean Treacey 2nd in the BMW 2002.
The latter had led but lost time with a broken gearbox.
News from San Remo World Championship Rally - Kris Meeke & Chris Patterson
have just texted to say that unfortunately their Corsa is off the road and out.
Both OK but 2nd in the Juniors kissed goodbye…..
