NO.3
End of stage 2 - Sunday ..Noon UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 2 Mizen Head 1st (1) Kenny McKinstry/Sean Mullally (Imprezaa WRC) 17.42 2nd (3) Melvyn Evans/Llinos J-Edwards (Impreza WRC) 17.56 3rd (4) Liam McCarthy/Kieran Murphy (Corolla WRC) 18.10 4th (2) Michael Barrable/Dermot O'Gorman (Impreza WRC) 18.12 (6) Ollie O'Donovan/David Moynihan (Imprezaa WRC) 18.12 6th (5) Patrick Elliott/Martin Cahill (Impreza WRC) 18.18 7th (7) Pete Doughty/Lyn Jenkins (Impreza WRC) 18.30 8th (9) Steve Fleck/Andy Card (Impreza WRC) 18.43 The above leaderboard is completely unofficial - stage 2 was interrupted after just 9 cars. Phil Collins was next car due at stage finish in his Mk2 Escort but apparently there has been an accident in the stage, no sign of Phil or the following cars after many minutes, and we had to leave. As can be seen above Kenny McKinstry continues to lead and was indeed fastest through stage 2 as well as stage 1. On that 2nd stage McKinstry had a time of 9.30. Melvyn Evans went well with 9.38. Ollie O'Donovan was 3rd fastest with 9.43 then Liam McCarthy 9.45 and Michael Barrable 9.47. McKinstry reported that it was a difficult stage, very tight and bumpy towards the start and he thought he got his tyre choice just about right, cut slick Pirellis. Michael Barrable was on a pure slick tyre which some of the other drivers reckoned was a bit brave. Michael himself said he was driving very hard, and a wee bit disappointed with his time. Melvyn Evans still reports his Impreza WRC to be bouncing about on the suspension, the Welshman also reckons that his Subaru exhaust manifold has got a crack. Just outside the above times we have David Armstrong on 10.15. Liam McCarthy reports no problems, car going well and if Liam can keep in his position he should just about win the 203 Tiles Championship. While Steve Fleck is looking good for the Get Connected series - this is the final round for both. On the last RallyNews we mentioned Kieran O'Callaghan and Willie Fannin tying for the lead of gpN. Since that we have got a time of Colm Murphy who has moved from the Ford Focus championship to a gpN Subaru. Colm's time was 8.54, just 3s slower than the gpN cars in front, and that was despite having caught Con Mulcahy in the stage and losing a few seconds. On the Tempest Rally Sebastian Ling still leads the Peugeot 206 Super Cup contenders by 7s from Chris Moore with Gareth McHale a further 8 back. McHale set a quickest time in stage 5, and is battling with Chris Moore for the Late Challenge Award which is for a brand new Peugeot 206. More news later.
