The dramas started early on this Bio tech Kerry Single Stage
Rally with front runner James McCann's Escort Cosworth
running into turbo charger problems and Top Part West Coast
championship favourite Aidan Walsh damaging his Escort, and
either running very late or retired. As can be seen above
Sean Gallagher was fastest through the first stage, Sean
saying "We had a good enough run, but the tight hairpin
is hitting me hard, I can't get the car round it".
Pat Donegan was best of the Mk2 drivers and 2nd overall, Pat
reporting a big scare at the 5th gear jump in the middle of
the stage. Tom Randles hasn't been out rallying for 12
months and he surprised himself with 4th fastest time.
Mike Quinn in 3rd reported no major problems. Ray
Hilliard is the fastest of the gpN drivers so far, while
Peter Clifford stalled his gpN Impreza at the hairpin and
lost a bit of time.
John Kearney, with Sean Moriarty co driving, was another of
the fancied front runners for the Top Part West Coast
championship, and they lost time when their Escort careered
into the chicane, John reversed back and in the process
sustained a puncture. Mick McQuaid lost time when his Escort
stuck in 6th gear. Kevin O'Donoghue lost a few seconds
when he spun his Civic at the first junction. Michael
Curran in the silver Escort had locking rear brakes, and
clipped the right rear corner of the car against a wall.
Patrick Kelly finished the stage with a poor enough time,
his engine sounding like it is banjaxed. Gary
McPhillips was another to have a spin at a junction. Keith
Naughton was slowed when a Subaru went off the road at a
square left in front of him. Alan O'Callaghan has been
forced to pull out, Alan suffering very painful burns to his
face and hands when he took the radiator cap off his Escort
following the familiarisation run.
