Niall Maguire brought his battered Impreza
back to service holding a strong third place despite handling problems "I
am struggling, she is really not handling". Rally leader Michael Barrable
overheard Maguire and said "I am the same, it is the conditions, my car is
all over the road" going on to say that he thought it was just the roads
and that most of the drivers had gone out on wet tyres, only for the sun to come
out. Eugene Donnelly summed it up pretty well, Eugene saying "I went out on
wets and it didn’t bloody rain".
David Armstrong continues to go well in
the ex Mel Evans Escort WRC, despite a failing intercom on that loop of stages,
Davy saying "it is nothing really bad, I just can’t hear the notes
right". Adrian McElvaney continues to set good times but was a little bit
slow on stage four, and like most others put it down to a wet tyre choice.
Ivan Stewart is persevering with his
misfiring Escort Cosworth , while Sean McArdle has no boost on his Celica.
Retirements from that loop include Glen
Allen whose Escort WRC has blown a head gasket, Glen scalding his hand quite
badly while inspecting the car and has gone to hospital to have it checked out.
Also gone is fellow Escort WRC driver Kieran Shaw who broke a driveshaft in
stage four.
Mac McKenna continues to lead the 2wd race
but other drivers just off the leaderboard include Pat Boyle who is on a total
of 55.05 and Norman Armstrong on 55.19. Norman having burned out his wet tyres
on that loop and whatever the weather does he will have to do the final three
stages on slicks. Finally MSI safety officer Gerry Burke would like to thank
Paul Gallagher’s service crew for patching up his exhaust. More News Later
