Through the short Jenny's Hill stage at Glentrool forest Tapio Laukkanen was
fastest by just under a second from Jari-Matti Latvala, with Jonny Milner a
further 2s back. In overall terms the short stage didn't prove a lot, especially
with the 18.5 mile Glentrool test next on the menu, but it still showed Tapio
Laukkanen's determination to try to pull back the lead. Tapio said
"We had quite a good stage, and it was nice, twisty and flowing."
Jonny Milner described the road as "tricky" and went on to say
"We kept it tight and tidy". Latvala commented "I'm going
now a bit slower, avoid the risks, I cannot catch Jonny or Tapio".
In the race for Super 1600 honours Gwyndaf Evans was 2s faster than young Colin
McRae Scholar, Kris Meeke, with the other leading Super 1600 cars finishing the
stage without problems. Ryan Champion commented "That's the first
stage we've had without a single problem". Barry Clark retired his Puma
stage 7.
Drivers not happy at the end of the stage included Barry Johnson and Dougie
Hall. Both their cars had broken windscreens, smashed from the top right
corner in by a branch from a fallen tree. Dougie said "It certainly upset
my concentration for a few corners".
In the Scottish National B part of the rally Raymond Munro led after the first 2
stages this morning from John Gray with Brian Bell 3rd.
The Peugeot 206 Super Cup runners are mixed in with the Scottish championship
contenders and Jack Ingleby was leading after the first 2 stages from Joan Roca,
11s separating the two. Yesterday's winner Mike Faulkner is 3rd, Sebastian
Ling 4th, Shaun Gallagher 5th and young Philip Morrow 5th.
LEX ARMY LAND ROVERS - Anton Mitchell still leads. Andrew Tidbury (No.304)
still going after putting his example on it's roof in stage 7 Fuffock Hill.
