The stunning news from stage 2 is that early leader Peadar Hurson has crashed
his Impreza WRC after a big jump. Adrian McElvaney's Subaru is off the road at a
square corner, and JJ Fleming's similar car is in a ditch.
Fastest in the 11.7 mile stage was Eugene Donnelly, with Michael Barrable 2nd
fastest. The latter was surprised at how little grip he was getting, feels the
roads might be dusty, and despite the scorching hot weather is going to try to a
slightly softer compound tyre.
In Group N Kieran Molloy sets the pace. Willie Fannin's total is 20.16. Derrick
Jobb 20.26. James O'Sullivan, with a well down on power engine, 20.57. The 023
Tiles man has now discovered there is a hole in the manifold which is cutting
the power. Eoin Doyle is on 19.52 with his new series 9 Impreza. Eoin
telling us that the rear brakes are sticking on. Mark Courtney is on 19.57, not
terribly happy with the way he is going.
In the battle of the Mark 2 Escorts Tommy Kelly seems to be the man at the
moment with 19.34. Gwyndaf Evans is 19.40 and David James is also on 19.40. Mac
McKenna is 19.43 in the Peugeot rwd, Mac feeling that his car is unstable,
possibly the wrong tyres.
Trevor Harding, in the late Frank Meagher's old car had intercom problems. We
seem to have had a wrong time for Ray Breen earlier - his time should have been
8s faster which would have brought him into the top 10 after stage 1.
More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
