Since last service the lead drivers have done 2 tarmac stages, St. Leonards.
Marcus Dodd increased his lead, Andy Burton dropped from 2nd to 3rd and David
Mann got the hammer down to come into 2nd place. When Dodd's immaculate
Impreza WRC came into service he commented "It went well, but a couple
of the chicanes were nadgery in such a big car". Burton commented
"It was alright except for that black stuff, the tarmac, looking forward
to getting back into the forests". David Mann reported "We
went very well but nearly had a big spin, on the edge, 2nd time around".
In Group N the results show Will Nicholls leading in his Impreza with Kevin
Stephens 2nd and Paul Alexander 3rd, both in Lancers.
In the Peugeot Winter Cup Stuart Jones leads by just half a second from young
Philip Morrow with Sebastian Ling 3rd. The title is still wide open.
Leon Pesticcio's retirement was down to broken suspension, apparently a big
pot hole opening up before the end of stage 6 smashed something. Sykes
also retired with broken transmission.
Other stories from the front include - Roger Duckworth saying "The tyres
just went to jelly half way round the figure of eight in St Leonards".
Steve Hendy's Escort Cosworth arrived into service with the clutch broken,
Steve saying "We're struggling, we had a spin in stage 8, the clutch was
not so bad in the stage, but its bad now". Ollie O'Donovan was
bubbling when he reached service, adjustments to the centre diff
transforming his Subaru, Ollie setting quick times through the 2 tarmac
stages. Mike Brown reports his Lancer a lot better since the engine was
remapped, and he is fighting his way up the gpN order.
Louise Goodman has had gearbox problems, her Peugeot was stuck in 2nd gear
leaving her plenty of time to wave to the spectators. Nik Elsmore's Lancer
has stopped in St Leonards. Harry Dodd's Subaru slowed slightly with a broken
brake disc. More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
