Notes 25.03.02
NI Championship front
runner Owen Lamont has suffered a sports injury and has been
forced to withdraw from the Easter Stages, ruuning as part of the
3rd day of the Circuit of Ireland. Trevor Moore is No. 1 seed in
his Escort Cosworth. Championship leader Derek McGarrity is
competing on the main event but will be eligible to score NI
points on his Monday performance.
The IRCA
successfully put a case forward to the Ulster Auto Club to
increase the original planned Circuit reconnaissance period from
2 days to 3.
Eamonn Boland's
new 2001 Impreza WRC was put through a fruitful test last week on
the Cooley Mountain road by Dom Buckley. Eamonn withdrew the new
machine from the Mayo stages event because the suspension was too
stiff for his liking.
Tarmac Champion
Andrew Nesbitt had still to test his P2000 Impreza WRC as we went
to press, with Austin McHale in the same boat with his ex Manfred
Stohl Corolla WRC.
There is a historic section
running behind the three day Circuit and just one of the
interesting cars out will be Sean Treacey's reconstructed BMW
2002 in the same mode as Achim Warmbold's 1975 Donegal winning
machine.
Mickey McArdle's
BMW M3 unfortunately suffered fire damage during a testing
accident last week.
Tommy McGovern
won last Sunday's Midland Mini Stages event from Pat Higgins.
Tommy Graham and Hugh Dunne crashed their respective Subarus
while Rory O'Connor could only manage 3rd after stalling his
Escort WRC's engine at a chicane.
Fisher Engineering launched
the Fisher Foundation Trust fund last week at a glittering
occasion at the Manor House Hotel. The Trust Fund will act as a
permanent memorial to Bertie Fisher, Mark and Emma who so
tragically lost their lives in a helicopter accident just over a
year ago. The Foundation will be administered by the Fermanagh
Trust, and many other bodies and individuals contributed. The
beneficiaries will cover a wide cross community spectrum. In
particular rally safety will be assisted, being a subject that
was close to Bertie's heart. With Mark in mind there is a young
driver training award, while Emma's Christian dedication to
helping the less fortunate will be continued with support for the
Leprosy Mission, Trocaire and the Church Missionary Society.
