Irish Notes
14th Oct.02.
Liam Wall
turned in a superb final stage time on last Sunday’s damp and
slippy Tipperary Rally to take victory by 13 seconds from Seamus
Murphy. Enda O’Brien was 3rd and young Andrew
Purcell did well to take 4th.
Frank O’Mahony
and co-driver Hugh McPhillips, who spearheaded the organisation
of the recent successful Cork ‘20’, are to compete on the 27th
October Fastnet Skibbereen Rally in Kenny McKinstry’s RHD
Impreza WRC.
This
Saturday’s Enniskillen Clubman’s
Forest Stages Rally is the final round of the NI Beginners
Championship, which Trevor Elliott leads. There are three stages
tackled three times. Last year’s winner Raymond McManus heads
the entry list, with Garry Jennings at 2 in a warm up for the
Tempest and Omagh’s Paul Barrett at 3. Rally HQ is the Lough
Erne Hotel, Kesh, and the service area in Irvinestown.
Following
the Cork ‘20’ Nigel Hicklin
is just about odds-on favourite to take the 023 Tiles Southern 4
Championship, with just one round, the Fastnet, remaining. Tim O’Donovan
heads the points, Hicklin is 2nd and Ollie O’Donovan
3rd so it should be a tight finish taking into account
dropped scores.
Paul Harris
is top seed for this weekend’s Donegal Harvest, with National
Champion Niall Maguire at 2 and local man Daniel Doherty at 3,
all in Subaru’s. The Donegal MC has laid on six very demanding
tarmac stages, in the Innishowen Peninsula, with HQ in Buncrana’s
Innishowen Gateway Hotel.
Colm Murphy
tops
the Ford Ireland Focus Championship points after the Cork’20’,
with Oliver Stanley 2nd, Hamilton Bell 3rd
and John Foley 4th. Despite still being out of action
with injuries received in Clare, Gerry Keyes still leads the KA
series, with David Lyons the only driver who can now take the
title. The West 2002 in Galway is the final round.
Niall
Driver leads
the KBB Doors Forestry Championship points table going into this
weekend’s final round in Killarney. Eugene Donnelly is just 3
points behind, but when dropped scores are taken into account the
title is wide open, with Kevin O’Kane, John Donnelly, Paul
Staunton and James Murphy all in with a shout.
The
Killarney Forestry Rally,
backed by BioClear, is based in Castleisland’s River Island
Hotel. There are 6 stages planned, with service at Abbeyfeale,
and all the top Championship contenders are on the entry list.
