Irish
Notes 2nd Sept 02.
Armagh's
Maurice Gass
continued his run of good form when he took his Subaru WRC to a
win on the Maiden City MC's Aghadowey Rally on Bank Holiday
Monday. Former National Champion George Robinson was 2nd
and Richard Hall 3rd, both in Escort WRC's.
London
based
Limerick man Ollie O'Donovan, who has been rallying an ex Colin
McRae Legacy and more recently an Impreza, has done a deal with
MSD to compete on both the Clare National and Cork '20'
International in a Hyundai WRC.
Kevin
O'Kane
currently leads the points table on the KBB Doors National
Forestry series, the next round being this Sunday in Cork. Subaru
driver O'Kane has 6 points in hand over Eugene Donnelly in his
Celica, with Niall Driver (Mitsubishi) a further 12 adrift.
With 2 rounds remaining after Cork, and 20 points for a win, the
situation is still very fluid. Cork Forestry Clerk of the course
John Quill has laid on an interesting 8 stage route around
Mallow, and all the normal top forestry drivers have entered.
Rory
Kennedy has
been left without a run on this weekend's Ulster Rally, Alistair
Ginley having withdrawn, citing disillusionment with the BRC as
the reason.
Shaun
Gallagher
scored a convincing class win on last Sunday's Galway Summer
Rally, and was 12th overall. Shaun borrowed Adrian
McElhinney's Peugeot 206 for the trip, keeping his own machine
fresh for this weekend's Ulster. Letterkenny man Shaun, who is in
with a real chance of winning this year's Peugeot 206 SuperCup
series, achieved several objectives with his Galway run, not
least extra asphalt experience for the Ulster and moving closer
to qualifying for the Billy Coleman award.
Regards, Brian Patterson.
