IRISH
NOTES 08.04.02
Current KBB Doors
Forestry Championship
points leader Dominic McNeill heads the entry list for this
weekend's Wicklow Forestry Rally. Eugene Donnelly is at
No.2 in his Celica, Kevin O'Kane at No.3 in an Impreza, defending
Champion Niall Driver at 4 in his Lancer, with Eddie Kinirons and
John Donnelly rounding off the top 6. The Wicklow
club has laid on 8 stages based around Laragh village.
Young Garry Jennings
is attempting the almost impossible this weekend by competing on
the Astra Stages rally in Wales on Saturday, plus the Wicklow
Forestry on Sunday. Garry is lying a gallant 3rd overall in the
Irish forestry series. Interestingly, his 106 engine was
sealed following his 3rd place overall on the Birr Rally and was
found to be perfectly legal when observed by scrutineer Robert
Corrigan at a strip down at Peugeot's Coventry rally workshops
last week.
Magherafelt MC
is running their 5 special stage Davagh Rally next Sunday, with
reconnaissance on Saturday. Glenn Allen and Camillus
Bradley are amongst the top seeds.
Ballynahinch MC
is laying on a stage event at Bishopscourt on the 4th May with a
good value entry fee of just £95. Scrutiny, action and
prizegiving are all on the one day.
The Ford Ka Rally
Championship swings
into action on the 21st April Monaghan Stages Rally. There are 5
further rounds, Carlow Stages, Circuit of Munster, Ravens Rock,
Sligo Stages and Cork 20. The first of the new Focus 2
litre kit cars will be on show this Sunday at Monaghan MC's
pre-event warm up, a performance car show at Rally HQ, the
Hillgrove Hotel 2pm - 6pm.
Maiden City MC has
been given the go ahead by the landowners to increase the size
and scope of the stages at Aghadowey where they promote multi use
rallies. Liz McIvor of the Maiden City club reports that the
events are becoming increasingly popular which, allied to the
ever-increasing performance of the cars, prompted the club to
both increase the challenge and safety aspect.
Kevin O'Kane
came out tops on last Saturdays Spring Stages Forestry Rally at
Fivemiletown. Behind O'Kane's Subaru was Nigel Trotter (Escort
Cosworth) with Hugh O'Brien 3rd in his Subaru.
Regards, Brian Patterson.
