Notes 14th Aug 02.
Cookstown
MC
is organising a rallysprint this Saturday, consisting of four
runs over a smooth 1 mile stage in Davagh. At the same venue the
club is running their Blue Circle Stages Rally with 30 miles of
stages on 21st September. The event will be a round of the ANICC
Beginners Championship.
Oliver
Stanley
came out tops on the first points scoring round, the
Stonethrowers, of the new Ford Ireland Focus Championship,
from Colm Murphy with Brendan Kelly 3rd.
An
interesting
Saturday afternoon navigation rally is being planned by the North
Ulster Car Club for the 5th October called the Circuit of the
Glens. Aimed primarily for historic and post historic cars, there
will be 100 miles of straightforward navigation in Co Antrim,
with some regularity sections. The contact is Alister Morgan
(07802) 642520.
Paul
McLaughlin
and Mark Hanna were both hurt in accidents last week, Paul when
he fell off a bicycle, Mark when he crashed a quad bike. Paul was
due to co-drive for Niall Maguire on the Stonethrowers, Mark with
Richard Hogg on the Dogleap, with mixed results. Mike Gibson sat
in with Richard Hogg but ended up in hospital when their hired
McKinstry Impreza rolled. Paul Nagle substituted for Paul
McLaughlin and helped Niall Maguire finish 2nd on the
Stonethrowers and take the Dunlop National Champion title.
Tarmac
Champion
Andrew Nesbitt will be one of the judges at the 'Bombay Sapphire'
on the 24th August at St George's Market in Belfast. The unique
black tie affair will feature a collection of the best cars in
Ireland, old and new, with a dinner and show hosted by Ulster
Television's Pamela Ballantine. The proceeds are going to the
Phoebe Lyle Trust.
The
KBB Doors Southern Forest
series swings back into action with the September 8th Cork
Forestry Rally. John S Quill is Clerk of the Course this time and
there will be new stages in the Banteer and Killavullen area.
Last year's winner Dominic McNeill and current Championship
leader Eugene Donnelly are expected to head a strong entry.
Further
news
on the 9th November Galway International, to be known as the West
International, is that there will eight daylight stages and four
in darkness to give a compact one day format. The Quality Hotels
in Oranmore and nearby Clarenbridge will be HQ.
Brian
Patterson.
