IRISH NOTES 19TH AUGUST 2002

Maiden City MC is organising a "Multi Use Rally" at Aghadowey on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August.  There are still some places left for the mainly tarmac 20 stage miles and the man to contact is John McIvor on 028 777 65131.

Michael Gibson has been released from Altnagevlin Hospital and is well on the road to recovery after suffering a fractured vertebra in an accident on the Dogleap Rally.  He will be out of action for about 6 weeks.

Monaghan MC has suddenly been granted a permit to run a low cost, restricted to 2 litre, single tarmac stage, repeated three times, rally on 29th September. Any spare revenue from the event will be sent to the Motorsport Ireland Benevolent Fund.

The 14th/15th September Wexford Rally is being re-named the Dick Bailey Stages Rally in memory of the driver who died earlier this year.

Tim McNulty, driving the ex Bertie Fisher Subaru, is named as No 1 seed for the Castle Hellfire Rally based in the Castle Manor Hotel in Virginia on Sunday 8th September. Breen MacNamee, who is incidentally leading his class on the Dunlop National series, is Clerk of the Course and Rory Galligan is deputy. Peugeot works driver Rory will travel straight on from the Ulster for the Sunday event, where the action is based around his home town of Oldcastle.

Magherafelt MC is  running an interesting event this Saturday, a rally time trial on 2 miles of the Banagher stage, a brilliant stretch along the side of the river. Eugene Donnelly in his Celica, Kieran Shaw in his Escort WRC and Andy Magee in his Mk2 Escort are just some of the top entries.

Regards, Brian Patterson.
