Irish Notes 28th August 2002.

Peugeot 206 Super Cup
star Garry Jennings is to compete on the park Stages in the David Greer Motorsport Lancer Evo 6. Backed by a consortium led by Ivan Fisher of Fisher Engineering, Jennings' trip in the same car was foreshortened on the Manx when a stud in the cylinder head to the turbo sheared. This deal is a form of compensation for that disappointment.

Stephen Whitford will use the same  Lancer on the NI Championship Lakelands the previous weekend to the Park Stages, so the Jennings deal will hinge on the silver Mitsubishi surviving that Fermanagh trip. Whitford is lying 2nd overall in the Championship, 8 points behind Derek McGarrity, and has achieved some stunning results in the GpN car. He started the series however in a Celica and Willie McKee of Toshiba/BSS currently leads GpN.

Michael Carlin from Maiden City MC would like to thank all the marshals, medical and rescue personnel who turned up for the Dogleap Rally. He would also like to point out that at the scene of the Richard Hogg/Michael Gibson accident that Richard waved following drivers on while at the same time displaying the SOS board.

I
t was a Donnelly brothers  'one - two' on last Saturday's Magherafelt MC Bannagher Rally Trial, Eugene winning from Charlie, both in Celicas, by less than a second. Glenn Allen and Kieran Shaw were 3rd and 4th, both in Escort WRC's.

Galway MC swings back into rally action this weekend, after a long lay-off, by staging their popular Portumna based stage rally. Although not a counting round of the National series this time, the event still has an oversubscribed entry. One feature will be a high profile entry for Elaine Cunningham in a drive to raise funds for the Cancer Society.
