Irish Notes

The 2004 NI Rally Championship will follow it's now
traditional format of 9 events, starting with the Eurocables
Rally at Kirkistown. One significant change is that the Easter
Stages will now run on Easter Saturday as opposed to Easter
Monday. Other changes include an additional ‘overall’ point
and one ‘class’ point awarded for each event ‘started’ by
a registered competitor. The best seven scores from nine will
count. The 2004 awards night is at the Seagoe Hotel on Monday
19th.January.
Leitrim driver Sean Gallagher is top seed for this Sunday's
Kerry Single Stage event. Paul McCann will start at 2 in his
Escort Cosworth with Pat Donegan the top 2wd seed at three in his
Escort MK2. The first car is due to start at noon from the Banna
Beach Hotel HQ.
The Top Part West Coast Championship reaches its conclusion on
the Kerry Single Stage. Only three points separate the leading
drivers of Limerick's Aidan Walsh, Galway's Sean Lyons and Kerry
man John Kearney. All three drive Escort Mk2’s, which should
make an interesting fight.
The Cavan Single Stage Rally was won by Bailieborough’s
Cyril McCullagh in an Escort, his total time 32m 21s. John McCabe
was a further 18 secs back, with Peter Rogers, also in an Escort,
a further 1 sec back. It was an Escort top three also on the
Suirway Forklifts Single Stage Rally, Michael Reddy coming out on
top with a total of 25 m 54s, Tommy Kiely a further 7 secs back,
Shay Power 3rd, 29 secs in arrears.
