Irish Notes 17th September 03

Barbados Rally Champion Barry Gale has entered for the 4/5th October Cork '20' International and will drive a Roger Clark Motorsport GpN Lancer. Gale has kindly put up an interesting award on the rally, an all expenses paid trip, including shipping the rally car, to his home Barbados event next year.

Clonmel's Roy White, currently tying for the GpN lead of the Tarmac Championship with Aaron McHale, is planning to compete on the Trackrod Rally as well, penultimate round of the Pirelli British Championship. White lies second GpN in the Pirelli series, more by accident than design, and feels he should give it a go. However as the two events are only seven days apart he plans to hire a Buckley Motorsport Evo 5 for Yorkshire and keep his own Evo 8 for Cork.

Cookstown MC's Blue Circle Davagh Rally this weekend promises a titanic battle between some of the hottest Mk2 Escort pilots in the country. Seamus Donnelly, Camillus Bradley, Gary Keenan and Philip Shaw are the top seeds. As well as stages over the asphalt drives of Davagh, the club has set up an interesting spectator stage through the grounds of Loughry College.

Stevie Whitford, last year's Lakelands Stages Rally winner, and  co-incidentally like Niall McShea's victory this time achieved in a GpN Mitsubishi, makes the trip to Wales this weekend to compete in the Plains Rally, this time driving his wife Lucy's GpA Nissan Micra.

Dublin's Willie Fannin, who has been a GpN front runner on the Dunlop National series this year, is in the throes of doing a deal with Prodrive to move into a new series 9 GpN Impreza for the remainder of the season.
