Irish Notes 15th Dec.03.
Killarney MC is proposing to introduce a new full time rally school and test track quite close to the centre of the town. The idea has been in the pipeline for a while, but an announcement from Motorsport Ireland that new rally licence applicants will have to attend a course from 2005 onwards has spurred the concept on.
The Irish Rally Compeitors Association (IRCA) is holding their now popular Marshals Day at Mondello on 24th January, where drivers are invited to bring their cars along and give marshals a run. Proceeds will go to Temple Street Children's Hospital.
The prestigious Punchestown World Rally Experience event was originally scheduled for early July on the 2004 calendar, but guiding lights Ronan Morgan and Tom Nolan are looking more towards a weekend at the end of July to avoid major date clashes. This would entail however a certain shuffle in the Irish calendar, but hopefully this should be achievable.
Kevin Lynch, one of Ireland's most improved drivers and who ran in the top six throughout last weekend's Titanic Rally Time Trial, has a new Impreza WRC S9 coming for next season. He will use his new Stan Harper run Subaru to contest the Dunlop National series, keeping his current S8 for the Southern Forestry and NI series.
Southern Forestry Championship changes voted in at last weekend's meeting in Cashel include splitting the 1600 class into 8 valve and 16 valve categories, plus new 2wd and Junior Championship awards. There's a new event in the calendar next year, based in Monaghan and the 7 round series starts with the 22nd February Carrick on Suir event.
Regards Brian Patterson.
