Notes 23.04 .03
The 10th May Tour of the Sperrins, based in Magherafelt and the
next round of the NI Stage Championship, is to be backed by KBB
Doors, also based in Magherafelt. Well known driver Philip Shaw
is the Clerk of the Course and he is planning a value for money
top rally, with an entry fee of just £220 including NES
insurance.
The planned outing on the Killarney Rally of the Lakes by Liam
O'Callaghan in the development Prodrive GpN Subaru Impreza has
had to be shelved, Liam having fallen off a ladder and damaged
his shoulder.
Enniskillen MC put a massive amount of hard work into making the
St. Angelo airfield venue such a success on the Circuit of
Ireland, and will be running their own special stage rally there
on Monday 5th May. Print Factory is backing the rally. Some
of the top drivers entered include, Raymond Johnston, George
Elliott and Gerry McGarrity.
The Munster MC & Car Club has announced details of their
4/5th October Cork 20 International Rally. The event will
be the final round of this year's Tarmac Championship and will
employ some of the classic stages in Co. Cork and be based once
again in the Rochestown Park Hotel. Murphy Construction is
backing the rally again this year and well known competitor Frank
O'Mahony will be heading the management team.
David Greer of Carryduff Forklift has made a last minute entry on
this weekend's Pirelli International Rally to drive his Corolla
WRC. The outing is dependent on the car finally being ready
after the Sunseeker accident.
The Killarney Rally of the Lakes on May Bank Holiday weekend
promises to have 15 World Rally Cars as the top 15 seeds.
The rally currently has a massive reserve list and also has an
Historic section, plus there will be an interesting selection of
Group B rally cars traversing the stages.
Dermot O'Gorman was to co-drive for Derek McGarrity on the
Circuit, but decided to withdraw when he got news of a family
illness. Chris Patterson, just back from Rally New Zealand where
he was co-driving for Niall McShea, stepped in to the breach.
Niall, who drives under an Irish licence, scored two valuable WRC
Production Cup points.
Regards, Brian Patterson.
