Irish
Notes 20th Oct 03.
Trevor
Moore, winner of this year’s Cork Forestry event and rated as
one of the quickest men on gravel in Ireland, is forsaking his
Escort Cosworth and hiring a Subaru WRC from Kenny McKinstry for
next weekend’s Co. Antrim Toshiba Rally. Trevor insists that he
is hanging up his racing boots, and this will be his final rally.
John
O’Connell, Clerk of the Course of next February’s Galway
International, has pledged to restore the rally to its former
high profile. John is basing the event, opening round of the 2004
Tarmac Championship, at the Radisson Hotel in Galway City.
Provisional date for the rally is 6th – 8th
February.
Eamonn
Mimnagh (Escort Mk2) won last Saturday’s Enniskillen Clubmans
stage rally, by the narrowest of margins from Aidan Caldwell
(Escort). Harold Brown was 3rd in an Astra. The event
employed repeated stages through Tullychurry and Curraghmore
forests, as well as Carn Quarry and was a round of the Tracker
Junior NI Championship.
Eamonn
Boland, following his Cork ‘20’ International win, is
planning to contest the Wales Rally GB and Monte Carlo WRC
events, before a full blown assault on the 2004 Tarmac
Championship. Eamonn finished runner up on this year’s Tarmac,
equal on points with Austin McHale, Wexford man Eamonn getting
the nod on a tie-break.
Former
Donegal International Rally Clerk of the Course Jim Callaghan,
co-driven by Ivan Fuery, has completed a charity drive around
Ireland, visiting all 32 counties in less than 20 hours and
raising over Euro 8,000 for Letterkenny based children’s
charities.
Mick
Nevin and co-driver John Kinahan have won the class based South
East Stages Championship in their Escort 1600.
Tim
Clifford is Clerk of the Course once again of the Classic
Killarney stages event over the weekend of 6th/7th
December. Tim has planned a new loop of stages for the Dromhall
Hotel based rally. Interestingly the entry fee includes a
donation to the RNLI Valencia Lifeboat.
Regards,
Brian Patterson
