Irish
Notes 25.06.03.
Nigel Hicklin has changed his GpA Impreza for a '99 WRC version
and plans to contest this weekend's Kilkenny based Ravens Rock
Rally in his quest for Get.Connected points.
Former forestry Champion Dermot Kelly promises a return to action
on the Cork Forestry Rally, 26th/27th July, penultimate round of
the KBB Doors Forestry Championship. The event breaks with
tradition by having 14 stages spread over 2 days. Regulations are
available on www.corkmotorclub.com
Austin McHale reports that the accident damage to his Impreza WRC
sustained on Atlantic Drive should be easily sorted before the
Jim Clark Rally, next round of the Tarmac Championship. Austin's
older son Aaron was due to have a new Lancer Evo 8 for Donegal,
but the car should now debut on the Jim Clark.
Maurice Gass crashed his Impreza WRC out of the Donegal Rally,
caught out on cold tyres. Happily damage was light and the Armagh
man is well on course for the Jim Clark.
A new slot in the Irish calendar is the 26th July Mayo MC's
Single stage rally at Kiltimagh. Margaret McGreal is the contact
at 094 56726.
Brendan Crealey's Superdrive Motorsports Centre is the centre for
an interesting Ladies Charity Challenge with TV personalities
such as Pamela Ballantine, May McFetridge and Nuala McKeever
lending their weight. The Challenge, scheduled for a major finals
day on 16th August, will benefit charities such as the MacMillan
Cancer Care and Marie Curie. Rally driving, karting and quad
biking are all on the menu.
Eugene Donnelly will have an opportunity to regain his points
lead from Denis Biggerstaff when the NI Stage championship moves
on to the next round, the 19th August Dogleap Rally based in
Limavady's Gorteen Hotel. C of C Michael Carlin has found several
new forest stages for the event.
Peadar Hurson, winner of the Jim Clark National Rally 2 years ago
in his Celica, 5th on last weekend's Donegal International in his
Impreza WRC, would dearly love to compete on the Jim Clark. He
feels however the time gap is just not enough, either from the
budget aspect or re-preparing the car to allow a privateer to do
it.
Charlie McGuckin's MicroCam concern introduced an innovative
project on the Shell Donegal International, showing each day's
action, particularly in-car, plus the RallyNews service on large
plasma screens in the foyer, and outside the rally HQ, the Mt.
Errigal Hotel.
