Cold dry conditions prevailed as the 84 crews in the main part of this Cartell.ie Killarney Rally of the Lakes started the opening Molls Gap stage. As can be seen above Tim McNulty set a mighty pace to move into the lead with Alan Ring taking advantage of home territory to set 2nd place with last year’s winner Daragh O’Riordan 3rd.

Unfortunately there was an incident at the finish of the stage when a spectator took ill and collapsed. There was an ambulance in attendance almost immediately. The stage was interrupted and the later numbers drove through in a non-competitive manner.

Early times coming in for SS2 Ballaghbeama:
International
1st (2) Tim McNulty/Paul Kiely (Impreza WRC) 17.24.4
2nd (1) Daragh O'Riordan/Tony McDaid (Impreza WRC) 17.37.9
3rd (4) Darren Gass/Enda Sherry (Impreza WRC) 17.57.3

2nd (23) Barry Meade/Liam Moynihan (Escort) 18.41.7
3rd (20) Charlie Hickey/Johnny Hickey (Escort) 19.18.8
All these times are still very provisional and are subject to change.

News is coming in that Alan Ring has not completed stage 2. Eugene Donnelly is suffering from the affects of petrol fumes in the car. Darren Gass is losing time because his tyres seem to be too soft a compound for the bone-dry conditions.
