Donagh Kelly went fastest on the second run over the Tullyree Stage to move back into the lead of this Hankook Down Rally. Co driver Kevin Flanagan just rolled his eyes when they pulled up at the end of the stage knowing they had set a good time and jumped out saying he just loved that. Derek McGarrity was equally pleased with his run despite dropping 2.2 seconds to Kelly. McGarrity thinks there is still a lot more to come but told us “that was a good run, I really enjoyed it and even broke into a sweat”. Kenny McKinstry felt a lot more confident in his LHD Impreza and feels that the time is getting nearer for slick tyres. Derek McGeehan was a full ten seconds quicker over that stage than his first run and he was quite happy with that.

In GpN Geoff McMahon has extended his lead after stage three with fastest GpN time and he still holds a solid fourth. Paddy McVeigh was a strong second in his Impreza but had to stop and change a puncture after clipping the first chicane on stage three dropping almost three minutes and he has now decided to retire.

Finton McGrady set a good time on SS3 but had a bit of drama at the stage finish when his McGrady Insurance Escort refused to restart. Co driver Brian Crawford fiddled with some of the wiring loom and after an anxious wait they eventually got underway. Drew Stewart has moved into the lead of the Mk2 race after a stunning time in stage three but it is still very close. Further down the field some of the younger Escort drivers are turning in some really fast times. Paul Killen set a time of 6.29.1 compared Niall Braniff on 6.28.6 while Vivien Hamill was 6.27.0 and Drew Stewart the benchmark on 6.22.3. Chris Simms confessed to a huge moment near the finish of stage three when his Escort got out of shape on some bumps and apologies for calling him Chris Hazley earlier.
