Donegal brothers Trevor & Kenny Bustard hold a very slim lead here at service, just 6s ahead of Shane Maguire. Jonathan Pringle is putting up a superb performance in his Mk2 Escort to hold 3rd. Pat Kirk had been 4th but he lost well over a minute on stage 3 when his Lancer slid wide, a rear wheel filled up with mud and Pat had to stop and clean the rim out as he said it was undriveable. Trevor Bustard reported several major slides and skids on the slippery stages but otherwise going well. Jonathan Pringle spun his Escort at a square right.

We reported earlier that Garry Jennings was stopped a couple of miles into stage 1. He eventually got the Corolla WRC going but dropped well over 20 minutes. His times through stages 2 and 3 have been good but not fastest. Co driver Herbie Blackburn is not feeling very well and that is not helping. Garry still does not know why the Corolla stopped. He tho9ught initially it was something to do with the ignition switch but that does not appear to be correct. Arthur Kierans still thinks his Escort engine is down on power and the alternator light was flashing through stage 3 which was a bit of a worry. Alistair Cochrane’s Escort had an overshoot in stage 3 but lost little time. Andrew Mullen still has brake problems with his Lancer and this is now affecting his confidence. Andrew’s total time after 3 was 28.18. Columba Heena had an intercom problem in his Corolla through stage 3. He reckoned he had lost a lot of time. However the clock said differently and he is still well on the pace.

Sean Gallagher, who has been out of rallying for quite a few years, is driving his son’s car today and said he is very good for a mile and then very poor for 3 miles! However Sean’s times are getting better by the stage. John Warren still has steering problems with his Corolla and said it is like driving an old Massey Ferguson. Liam Egan is well down the results so far on his first trip in a Corolla WRC. The New York based Irishman said “She’s like a buckin’ bronco”. Paddy Kiernan lost a little time in stage 1 when his Escort slid off on a square right. One of the top runners in the class based Border C/ship Barry McGill has had a torrid time so far today. He lost 2m in the first stage when he put his Escort in a ditch, on a square left. Then he broke the gear stick in stage 2 and had 2 spins in stage 3. There are now no rear tail lights left in the Escort.
