Stage 5 is the longest stage of the rally and Colin Britton was fastest with Garry Jennings 2nd fastest just 1s slower. Martin Cairns was leading the rally going into the stage but he had a spin in his Impreza that leaves Garry Jennings leading at the half way mark. Kenny McKinstry said he did not enjoy that long stage, he could not get the flow.

Vincent McAree dropped a little time when his Lancer rear brakes gave trouble. Derek McGeehan has been unhappy with the power output of his Mini WRC since the start of the rally. Although he still feels it is down on power he had reasonably good times through stages 4 and 5. Ian Cochrane had further front suspension problems with his Lancer. He hopes to get it properly sorted here at service. Raymond Mason is not too far off the leaderboard on a time of 19.50 and although he reports no problems with the car he did hit a very large pothole when lining the car up for a pothole in stage 5.

Frank Kelly was off briefly a couple of times in stage 5 but is still the best of the Escorts. There was confusion at a triangle junction in stage 4, Gortin Glens, and several drivers reckon they lost tine there including Seamus O’Connell and Adrian Hetherington. Rally sponsor RJ McKelvey had a big moment in stage 2 when his Lancer “fell over”. Spectators soon had him up and away with no real damage. Ben Gormley from Belleek damaged the driver’s side of his Subaru at a chicane in stage 3; he is still going strong but with the rear door bashed in.

Latest news we have is that the second run over Carrickaholton may not happen because of the loose horse in the stage.
