Although Frank Kelly is shown above as leading with James Stafford equal 2nd along with Alan Ring and Roy White there is an anomaly, or at least there may be, with the Stafford first stage time. Darrian pilot James Stafford has certainly had a very good run so far and the damp roads do not seem to be affecting his Darrian in any way. Alan Ring reported no problems after stage 2. Colm Murphy struggled a little but still set a respectable time despite his Impreza having a drive shaft problem.

Roy White thought that there was something not quite right with his MG power steering at the end of stage 1, but it seemed to be OK in stage 2. Having said that, there are not a lot of corners in stage 2. Frank Sweeney seems slightly crestfallen when he brought his Escort into service and he told us. “The differential is roaring”. Tommy Mason is out in the Gary McPhillips Escort for the first time and finds he is braking far too early for the chicane. Eddie Power is going very nicely in his Corolla WRC, although he reckoned he was just a bit too cautious in stage 2.

Cal McCarthy had an overshoot but is still setting cracker times and is 9s ahead of Neil Pierce in the battle for class 11F supremacy. John Hendy in his Corolla twin cam is leading class 13.

On the World Rally Championship Rally Spain Tanak has crashed out on stage 16 which moves Craig Breen and Paul Nagle up to 6th o/a in their Fiesta S2000, but more importantly Craig is keeping his brain in gear and holding PG Andersson at a constant 2m27s behind. There are just 2 stages remaining and if Craig can get through to the finish now it means he wins the SWRC title. Loeb still leads the rally. Latvala has just set a fastest time but is 19.8s behind the Citroen of Loeb.

One of the sponsors of the RallyNews service, Mike Moriarty of the Centra shop in Farranfore, has taken some sort of bug and has had to step down from OO co-driver duties this morning in the BMW of Mike O`Leary. We send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
