Blue skies greeted the drivers as they tackled the classic Ring stage to start Day 2 of this Quality Hotel West Cork Rally. St. Patrick`s day it may be, but the temperature was still very low and the road surfaces damp making life far from easy for the drivers. Fastest through the stage was Daragh O`Riordan in his new Fiesta WRC. Although Daragh was 5th overnight he has made some changes to the car and was in scintillating form this morning. Rally leader Denis Cronin was almost 5s slower than Brian O`Mahony in the battle for the lead, both drivers stalling their respective Subarus in the stage. Owen Murphy held on to 3rd place in his GpN Lancer but he said at stage finish. `Mentally I had a terrible stage. I have got the idea to get the car home now but it has messed up my head`.

John Dalton had a fantastically fast run in his Darrian, just a fraction down on O`Riordan and O`Mahony, but said at the stage finish. `The front brakes are warping and the front tyres are off as well`. Adrian Hetherington gave the stage everything, flat out from start to finish, but he was still 17s down on Dalton although he was half a second faster than his great Escort rival Frank Kelly. Frank did admit to an overshoot. Ed O`Callaghan is the 3rd Escort in the top 10 and he seemed to lose quite a few seconds, 15 down on Kelly and reckoned he had picked too soft a compound tyre. Wesley Patterson has got the clutch fixed on his Escort and he is running 16th o/a and set a respectable time through that Ring stage, but was a fraction down on Welsh driver Tomas Davies in a similar FIA K Class Historic Escort.

Lying 50th in the rally is Mick Cremin the Coach operator from Keakil near Ballylickey and Mick is celebrating his 60th birthday today. No better way of doing it than driving in the West Cork Rally! Happy Birthday Mickā€¦..
