RALLY NEWS NO.3 Service/Sunday

UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 3 Killavoggy
1ST (2) Declan & Brian Boyle (Impreza WRC) 25.18.6
2ND (3) Niall Maguire/Enda Sherry (Impreza WRC) 25.53.6
3rd (5) James Stafford/Amy Ryan (Darrian) 26.12.9
4th (8) Sam Moffett/James O`Reilly (Lancer N) 26.35.4
5th (9) Josh Moffett/Jason McKenna (Lancer N) 26.38.4
6th (7) Stephen & Susanne Wright (Lancer N) 26.38.8

Declan Boyle continues to set fastest times but he is not happy with the power output of his Subaru engine and is hoping his service crew can improve matters here at service. Some of the pressure is off for Boyle now as his closest pursuer Donagh Kelly has put his Focus WRC into the ditch on stage 3 on a tight 5 right corner. Donagh had set fastest time through stage 2 and closed to within 5s of Boyle. This moves Niall Maguire up into 2nd place. Niall did have an overshoot at a square right over bridge ion stage 3 that cost him a few seconds and he is now 35s in arrears of Declan Boyle in the race for Dunlop C/ship points.

James Stafford is coping manfully with his Darrian over the bumpy stages and reported that the car is bottoming out in places. James is going to ask his mechanics to fiddle with the suspension here after stage 3 to try to improve matters. Sam Moffett lost a few seconds in stage 2 when the spare wheel of his Lancer came adrift and the jack was clattering about behind his seat, but he had a great run through SS3 to regain the Group N advantage from his brother Josh. Josh reported no real problems through stages 2 and 3. Declan Gallagher is setting some sizzling times in his Starlet to hold the Best Modified place. Also going extremely well in the modified section is Paddy Kiernan in his Escort. Paddy is running a little bit later in the order so we do not have a time for him, as yet, for stage 3.

Behind this leading bunch there has been many dramas and misfortunes over the opening three stages. We have reported above on Donagh Kelly going off on stage 2. Russell Woods was reportedly off on SS2 and is not continuing. Desi Henry crashed his Citroen DS3R3 heavily in the bumpy section at the end of stage 2. It is being suggested that stage 2 may now be shortened to cut out that very bumpy section. Roy White was up to 5th o/a initially in his MG S2000 but the power steering broke 500m into stage 2 and there is also a started motor problem, so Roy has lot a lot of time although is still going. Eugene Meegan has gearbox and overheating troubles with his Lancer and may be forced to pull out here at service. Shane Maguire is still going well, but his Impreza gearbox is tightening up. Richard Moffett put his Starlet off in stage 2, dropped about 5m, got going but is thinking of retiring here at service. Further times coming in show Stephen McCann, Jonathan Pringle and Raymond Conlon coming into the top 10.
