Kenny McKinstry/Claire Gamble were fastest through stage 2 but by just 0.1 of a second from Garry Jennings/Michael Moran. Both drivers improved on their first stage time and Kenny said. `That was a lovely run`. Garry Jennings commented. `I tried to tidy things up a bit.` Third placed Denis Biggerstaff is putting on a great performance and he said. `There was a bit less rust on that one`. Denis` son Stuart also had a good run, just over a second slower than his father, but Stuart had a big problem in that his Metro 6R4 developed a power steering fluid leak and sprayed liquid all over the driver`s footwell. Stuart`s racing boots were covered in fluid and slipping off the pedals.

Once again Frank Kelly was fastest of the Mk2 Escort with a bionic time and Wesley Patterson was just a fraction slower. Pat O`Connell survived a first stage spin in his Lancer to hold the Group N lead with Mark Massey 2nd and Andrew Mullen 3rd in the category. Mullen had some 2nd gear problem through the first stage but that seems to be resolved. Keith White is putting up a tremendous performance in his Mk1 Escort and is now 11th o/a and 3rd in class behind Kelly and Patterson. Keith picked a harder compound tyre for the 2nd stage and it took them a while to warm up. John Waring was driving Adrian Hetherington`s Escort today and unfortunately retired on stage 2 when the prop shaft broke. Stephen Mawhinney has moved into the lead of the Historic section in his Sunbeam Lotus with Gary Owens 2nd in an Escort. Normal front runner Cal McCarthy is well down the list this time as he gets accustomed to a new Honda Civic R3. A beautiful car with a sequential shift but far removed from Cal`s usual Civic.
