Garry Jennings, co driven by Michael Moran, had a storming run through stage 4 and was nearly 3s up on Kenny McKinstry/Claire Gamble in a similar Subaru. In Lurgan Park terms 3s is a massive amount and it could set the seal on a winning run for Jennings. Of course anything can happen, especially when competition is so tight and close. Denis Biggerstaff held 3rd o/a starting that stage but he had a bale in his notes as a marker and that bale was not there and Denis overshot the junction. That cost him as much as 10s and allowed West Cork man Kevin Kelleher on his first visit to the Park to slip through. Stuart Biggerstaff was another to have a good run. Stuart changed the tyres on his Metro 6R4 and also stiffened the suspension that he reckoned transformed the car. He set a very respectable time in stage 4 to move into 4th o/a. Jonny Leonard is driving his socks off in his Lancer and has moved up to 5th, aided and abetted by his co-driving Mum, Geraldine, calling the notes in no uncertain fashion to her wee boy! Alan Carmichael lost time when the intercom in his Mini WRC failed.

Kilkenny man Pat O`Connell was leading Group N but Pat and his co driver Mark have been forced to pull out because their Lancer suffered a centre differential problem. Marc Johnston now leads the GpN category. Marc did have a semi spin at a square left junction and his co driver the evergreen Richard Bell commented. `It was the best autotest turn I have seen in a long time`. English visitor Ray Brammer has found a great turn of speed after the short lunch break and was 5th fastest through stage 4 to move up into 12th place in his Subaru.

Following his major moment on stage 3 Frank Kelly was fastest Escort through stage 4 and said. `We just had to hit the re-set button`. Wesley Patterson reckoned he had an untidy stage but is still leading the Escorts overall. Sponsors perks – Orchard Motorsport supremo Brian Stinson is running his Rothmans Escort along with the Slowly Sideways cars between stages and Brian has 15 year old Rebecca Duff co-driving which is quite a thrill for the teenager. Give her a wave…!
