Streaming wet roads between Enniskillen and Tempo made the opening 9.25m stage difficult for the drivers. Derek McGarrity made the best of it with Sam Moffett a full 14s back and Garry Jennings in 3rd a further 9s away. There was heartbreak for Donegal crew Declan & Brian Boyle as their Subaru had some sort of engine/turbo problem and they pulled out of the rally after the stage. We have just heard from Commentator Dougie Hughes that the problem could be as simple as an errant turbo pipe jubilee clip. Derek McGarrity was using a very heavily cut slick Pirelli tyre and said he had a good run. Garry Jennings found it very slippery, especially over the shiny tar. While Sam Moffett`s Subaru indulged in a big spin on a 5 left 6 right junction.

Donagh Kelly also had a major moment, his happened at a junction early in the stage and it sapped his confidence. The rain eased slightly for the later cars but it was still wet and Stephen Wright said he was slightly disappointed and felt he could have set a better time. Rory Byrne in the Modern Tyres Lancer was surprised at the amount of grip he was getting.

There was a terrific variance between the top BRC contenders with Tom Cave fastest by 9s from Alistair Fisher. Cave said at the stage finish. `We made no mistakes and had a good run`. Alistair Fisher felt he had pushed fairly hard but he is obviously going to have to go even harder! Jonny Greer felt he was too cautious. Osian Pryce had a lucky escape when his Citroen skidded into the scenery. He kept going but was disturbed by the wheels being full of mud. Despite setting a good time Daniel McKenna felt his Fiesta was well down on power, and reckoned it was something to do with the cam followers. Jon Armstrong is on his local patch and has certainly the bench mark time. Timothy Cathcart has apparently slid his Fiesta R2 into a ditch on a slow speed square right corner and may not get going.

First news on the Challenge section is that young Dean Rafferty set a cracking time on the first stage but has major brake problems on the way to stage 2.
