Happily there were no mishaps amongst the leading drivers over the final few stages of this Orchard Motorsport backed Cork 20 International Rally. In fact the atmosphere as the cars came back into the finish ramp in the welcoming little town of Millstreet was one of winners all round. The rally was a huge success as was the switch to the Millstreet base. It was a special red letter day for the winning crew of Daragh O`Riordan & Tony McDaid in their Fiesta WRC as this was their hat trick of Cork 20 victories. Second overall on the rally but first in the Tarmac Rally Championship was Fermanagh man Garry Jennings and his Donegal co-driver Rory Kennedy. As Jennings stepped from his Subaru Impreza WRC he let a yell of delight that was probably heard as far away as his home-town of Kesh. Garry has worked tirelessly and put in a huge commitment to win this, his first Tarmac Championship. For Letterkenny man Rory Kennedy he has tasted success on the Tarmac C/ship before, most notably with the late great Bertie Fisher. Rory may not have co-driven for Garry on every round this year but he has certainly been a very important part of the team.
Indeed, Kevin Flanagan will almost certainly be the winning Tarmac co-driver.
Runner up in the Tarmac Championship today with his 3rd place on the rally is Donegal man Donagh Kelly, co-driven by Kevin Flanagan, in their Ford Focus WRC. Donagh`s Focus had a recurring problem with the anti lag system but he certainly did not lack commitment, he kept trying almost to the last stage. Owen Murphy/James O`Brien have won the important Group N category today in their Lancer. Stephen & Susanne Wright drove with enormous maturity over the weekend and have won the Production category of the Tarmac Championship.

In the National Rally Roy White and his co driver Liam Breen were simply superb in the way that they steered their MG S2000 to a massive 4m plus victory. If Roy and Liam were classified in the International category they would have been 5th o/a and ahead of the group N cars.
Wesley Patterson/Sean Hayde did a good job to take 2nd in the National with their Escort while Phil Collins/Adrian Deasy staged a marvellous comeback following a first stage puncture to take 3rd National.

In the Junior Rally Callum Devine/Liam McLoughlin (Citroen C2R2) won from Darren Young/PJ O`Dowd (Civic). Father and son crew Gary and Breen McNamee were 3rd in their Civic. The Historic Rally finished after stage 14 and fittingly was won by local driver Mark Falvey with Peter Scott co-driving an ex Billy Coleman 1974 British Championship winning Escort Mk1. Denis Moynihan/Shane Buckley were 2nd and Aidan O`Connor/Ian Regan were 3rd, both crews in Mk1 Escorts. James O`Mahony brought his very battered Volvo into 4th and won Cl.B5.
Finally for now, very many thanks to all who helped and supported our Rally News service and very well done to Kevin O`Riordan and all the Munster MC team for a brilliant event and their tremendously welcoming attitude.
