Having led the rally very decisively for the first two stages Welshman Hugh Hunter in his Subaru would appear to have stopped in stage 3. This leaves Ballylickey`s Denis Cronin, also in a Subaru, out in front from Daragh O`Riordan. Denis commented here at the service area beside the harbour here in a windswept Bantry. `On the first stage I was trying to left foot brake that I am told is the best way to drive the car. But I could not get that to work so I have just gone back to the old way and we are speeding up lovely. Braking too early is still a problem but I am enjoying it now`. Daragh O`Riordan on the other hand told us he has been very unsettled over the 3 stages. It has not really clicked for him.

Declan Gallagher & his his co-driver Ryan Moore, known in West Donegal as ``The Flying Milkman and the Milky Bar Kid` are really setting the roads alight in their Starlet. Declan seems to be shrugging off the wet conditions and is flat out everywhere in his race to capture the rally.ie award for best two wheel drive car on the Dunlop National series. Their chief rivals for that title are Cavan`s Jonathan Pringle and Lisburn`s Wesley Patterson, both in Escorts. Jonathan Pringle reported no real problems. Wesley Patterson was slowed with a mucked up windscreen in stage 2.

Also in dirty windscreen problems was Roy White in his MG S2000. Roy told us that the tube came off the washer bottle and as well as spraying water all over the engine it meant he could not the MG screen cleaned mid stage. Dan O`Brien is lying on the edge of the top 10 and he finished stage 3 with the roof vent of his Focus WRC clattering about. He said it did not really slow him down. Eddie Power is also driving a world rally car, a Corolla, and when he came in to service he said. `It has taken me 60 years to get a handle on wet roads and we are not doing so bad today! Vincent O`Shea plans to change the starter motor in his Escort here at service and his co driver Brian Hickey pointed out that they owe a big thank you to Wesley Patterson for lending them a new starter motor.

Jason McSweeney is having his first run out in an ex Ian Ryan Lancer and he is lying 7th o/a so he is going well. Jer O`Donovan is leading group N in his Subaru. He is happy enough with his progress as he has not been competing for the last 12 months. Interestingly, second in GpN is Stephen Carey/Breda O`Driscoll in their Civic and they are still in with a shout of winning the Southern 4 series. Declan Gannon (Car 22) was retiring his Impreza here at service because of low oil pressure. John Hickey had problems in stage 3 when his Escort cut out several times, seemingly due to an electrical fault.
