The final Friday stage through the streets of Newtownards was thronged with spectators. The low evening sun created difficult conditions for the drivers but it was still a fantastic spectacle. Craig Breen kept the pressure on rally leader Esapekka Lappi with another fastest time that leaves the gap between the two just over 12s starting Day 2 and another 8 special stages. Robert Barrable has had a great run through the day to hold 3rd place. Sam Moffett dropped a few seconds in the spectator stage that allowed Sepp Wiegand into 4th. Young French driver Robert Consani did well to finish the day in 6th place. Consani said. `It was more easy for me to compare times with my first lap. I made one big mistake, car into ditch.` He went on to say that there was little damage and little time lost.
Rally leader Esapekka Lappi said. `It was my first proper time on this tarmac. It will be a big fight tomorrow. I will do my best`. Having set fastest time on the last 3 Friday stages Craig Breen told us. `I had it in my head to go for a quickest time or two before bed. We got them. Tomorrow should be interesting`. Sam Moffett lost time when he got a chicane wrong on the Newtownards stage. It was only a few seconds but he is determined to make it up tomorrow.
Robert Barrable commented. `I think tomorrow`s stages are better, more flowing. Hamilton`s Folly was my Achilles Heel today. Otherwise it was OK although we were on cold tyres for the spectator stage following a long wait at the stage start and that was difficult`. News has reached us that Jukka Korhonen has rolled his Citroen DS3 R3T out of the rally this afternoon. Daniel McKenna in the Pirelli backed Citroen DS3 R3T is still going strong and is 8th o/a with Josh Moffett 9th and leading GpN. Chris Ingram is 10th and leading the ERC Junior category.
In the National Rally Garry Jennings has a lead of 23.8s following the Newtownards stage from Declan Boyle with Donagh Kelly 46s off the leader.
