Wet conditions persisted for the drivers as they tackled the 2nd stage of this Clare Rally although surprisingly most of the top crews felt that there was a higher level of grip than they expected. Patrick Elliott was fastest through that 2nd stage and reported no real problems. Niall Maguire told of his Subaru front screen misting up and also a small problem with his intercom. Third on the road Kevin Barrett set another respectable time and co driver Sean Mullally of RT Communications reported all well in the car. Anthony O’Halloran made up for his mistake on the opening stage when the forgot to switch on the diffs by setting fastest group N time, his Lancer stopping the clocks on 7m24s for the 12km stage. Dunlop Championship group N leader Alan Ring had a slow time, his Lancer seemingly down on power and Alan was 46s slower than O’Halloran.

Danny McBride had a good run through the 2nd stage, the Donegal man now lying 2nd o/a in group N, a wrong time for the first stage giving a misleading picture initially. We mistakenly reported that Sean Flanagan had damaged a suspension arm on the first stage, it was in fact Thomas Fitzmaurice, although it seems to have done little harm to the Tralee man’s times and he is right on the pace. Sean Flanagan has had a good solid run so far, co driver Brian Duggan remarked that they are determined to get to the finish of this event to try and score Dunlop points. Mike Moloney was the fastest 2 wheel drive through that 2nd stage although co driver Marie Casey related a very big moment a big slide, when their Escort broke away on a 5 right.

Alan O’Callaghan is having some problems with 2nd gear on his group A Impreza and he is lying just outside the leaderboard on a total of 16.41. Young Ian Barrett is also just outside the leaderboard on a total of 16.51. Ian and co driver Eoin O’Flaherty have been away from rallying for a little while as they each sat their exams and Ian said here at service. “I’m surprised at just how rusty I feel”. Andrew Bushe/Frank Curtin are having a good run in the ex McShea Saxo although the new suspension in the rear of the car still needs a bit of adjustment. Andrew passed Ian & Paul Roche who had overshot a junction in their Citron C2 and they also passed Richard Casey whose Escort seemed to be sliding all over the road. We have heard that Pat Casey/Brian Meaney have crashed their Escort on stage 2 and have gone to hospital for a check up. Andrew Bushe’s total after stage 2 we have unofficially at 16.47 which would make them equal with Alan Ring in 11th place o/a.
