Once again it has been a great day`s rallying here in Monaghan with brilliant weather. It was an especially red-letter day for winner Sam Moffett and his co-drivers James O`Reilly in their Fiesta WRC. Sam set an unbeatable pace and was able to make several small tweaks to the car in preparation for next weekend`s Rally of the Lakes. Second placed Peadar Hurson tried his best to match the pace of the flying Fiesta WRC but it was a difficult quest for the Co. Down man in his Escort WRC. He had a bit of a drama towards the end of the last stage when his car got too much of a drift on at an open square left and banged in and out of a few ditches. Peadar said. `It was good craic`. While his co-driver Damien Connolly just rolled his eyes skywards!

Daniel McKenna/Stephen Hagan had a real fight for most of the day with Garry McPhillips/Paul Sheridan for the honour of best Escort. McPhillips unfortunately had to retire his example 2 stages from the end when the car lost all its oil. McKenna reckons that the case hardening on the pinion in the back axle of his Escort had worn away and that was causing the vibration and rear brake pad knock off. Still, he kept it all together and is looking forward now to competing on the Pirelli Rally in the Citroen DS3 R3T.

Kevin Barrett finished a fine 4th o/a and said it was an enjoyable day with great stages. Josh Moffett backed off towards the end but was still 5th. Rodney Wilton was 6th. Young Richard Moffett made a real charge towards the end and just got past John McQuaid in the race for 7th & 8th.

Finally for now we would like to thank everyone who helped and supported our RallyNews service and say a big well done to CoC Brendan Flynn and all his enthusiastic team from the Monaghan MC for laying on such a great day`s rallying. (And special thanks to James O`Reilly!)
