There was drama right to the flying finish of this Samdec Security Lakeland Rally when Josh Moffett retired his Lancer because of a mechanical problem and Donagh Kelly went on to win. Earlier it appeared that Josh had incurred a road penalty that would have put him out of the reckoning. However, that was annulled and Josh still led. Donagh Kelly then really speeded up over the last few stages as he became more accustomed to the McGeehan Mini WRC, so even if Josh had been able to keep going who knows what the result would have been.

Be that as it may, Donagh Kelly & Mark Cassidy are the worthy winners in the Mini WRC from Desi Henry/Liam Moynihan in their Lancer. There was another drama towards the end when the Subaru of Martin Cairns did not appear at the final control as expected. It transpired that Martin had a problem with his seat belt but was able to borrow one from Conor Kelly and finish the rally with a flourish, to take 3rd place. This left Tipperary man Pat O`Connell and his co driver Derek Gibbs 4th o/a. Pat was bubbling at the end of the rally and he said. `That was a great day out, fabulous rally, cannot wait until the Bushwhacker`. Kenny McKinstry finished 5th with Kenny Hull co-driving in his Subaru. Kenny lacked confidence today on the big long stage over the blind crests.

Adrian Hetherington was best of the 2wd contenders in his Escort. Adrian had Wexford man Gary Nolan co-driving and he said at the finish. `It was a good day, very good, just a pity the other 2wd rivals disappeared`. Sam Moffett has not done a gravel rally since February, so was happy enough to finish 6th o/a. His bonus was to win GpN. James Gillen got the problem with his engine cutting out semi sorted. It only really happened when he used the handbrake at chicanes, and he finished to take 9th. Niall Henry was 10th and 2nd GpN.

Conor Kelly/David Vance won the 1600 category in their Sunny from Dominic Leonard/Martin Baxter (Civic). Jordan & Paul Hone took 3rd in their Micra.

Finally for now well done to Enniskillen MC for laying on such an enjoyable event, our thanks to all who supported and helped with our RallyNews service. Thanks also to Paddy McCollum for results.
