Following his pop off valve issues on stage 4 Craig Breen got everything sorted for stage 5 and set fastest time from Kajetan Kajetanowicz. Robert Barrable was 9s down on Craig Breen, 7s down on Kajetan. Initial times from stage 6 would indicate that Kajetanowicz was fastest from Breen with Barrable 3rd fastest, with only a few seconds between the 3 cars. Kevin Eves lost time when his Peugeot bounced off a ditch on a stage 2 bump-crossroads. Kevin thought briefly that he was out of the rally but he managed to change a broken wheel and he got going.
Jon Armstrong continues to lead R2 and is 11th o/a with Bergkvist 13th and 40s back, Ingram 16th a further 9s away.

In the National Rally – through stage 4 – Declan Boyle was fastest by 13s from Derek McGarrity with Kenny McKinstry 3rd fastest. Almost without exception the top drivers remarked on the big improvement on the road surface and they all seemed a lot happier. Declan Boyle reported no problems and said he had a good fast run, so it was interesting then to compare Declan`s time with the fastest International time. This honour went to Robert Barrable and he was 2s faster than the flying Subaru of Boyle. Kenny McKinstry was just one of many of the drivers to remark that he had a lot more confidence on that run, a combination of drier roads and suitable tyres. Alan Carmichael is starting to set better times as he gets used to the Subaru and when asked how it compared to the Mini, he said. `The Mini is an awesome car. You have to remember that this Subaru is now an old car`. Alan was slowed earlier when his Subaru suffered a damaged prop shaft.

Wesley Patterson seems to have got into gear and is setting better times since the lunch break. Dessie McCartney has new suspension fitted to his Darrian for this rally and it is not working out. He was caught through the relatively short 4th stage by Paul Killen, who is really flying in his recently acquired Escort G3. Stuart Biggerstaff has decided to withdraw his Impreza WRC due to fuel starvation problems. Robert Bunting/Graeme Stewart have retired their GpN Impreza because a hydraulic hose split and caused a fire.
