The above leaderboard is from the early cars only and could alter as more cars go through the opening stage, and arrive in here at John Conway`s premises.

First on the road, Peadar Hurson, is under no real pressure as he is driving the only world rally car in the event, but Peadar only knows one way to drive, and that is flat out! His time over the 8.25 bumpy miles of the first stage was 7m1s while next fastest, Frank Kelly, was 14s down and Camillus Bradley a further 4s back. When Hurson`s Formula Karting backed Impreza WRC came into the control Peadar told us that some of the bumps in the stage were pretty scary but he tried not to go crazy. He also commented that the dash read-out screen was intermittently losing its signal.

Frank Kelly commented about the bump on the stage. `We were the safe side of mental`. 3rd placed Camillus Bradley told us. `I was being cautious but really the car was making little of the bumps`. In the big race for the Carryduff Forklift Race to Wales section Killarney`s Rob Duggan put a brilliant show to record fastest in the class and he said. `I am still getting used to the new car. It is a small bit twitchy compared to the Fiestas`. Jon Armstrong was 7s down on Rob and he said. `We had a good enough run. I am bedding myself in. I have not competed on tarmac for a while`. Kyle White was expected to be on a par with Duggan and Armstrong, but his Citroen incurred a puncture and he dropped 15s.

In the Group N category Simon Woodside was fastest with a time of 7.51.6, a handful of seconds ahead of his NI Championship rivals Clive Kilpatrick and Geoff McMahon – all 3 in Lancers. Simon remarked that he found the car very good over the jumps while Geoff McMahon had a small overshoot at a junction and Clive Kilpatrick was slowed slightly when his Lancer almost got away from him at a chicane. Ryan Loughran is running at No.13 and he put his Escort into the ditch at the first junction in stage 1 and got stuck for 10m. Declan McNaughton was slowed when something in his Escort`s front suspension came loose. Shane McGirr found his Starlet rwd very nervous and skittery on the fast sections. Ashley Dickson found his Lancer`s rear suspension a bit too soft and the car indulged in a few old-time waltzes mid-stage. Seamus O`Connell had a good run but remarked that on some of the jumps he was a passenger in his Escort. The time has just come in for Alan Smyth of 7.48.2 in his Citroen C2R2 that puts him in the hunt for the R2 category.
