Through stages 2 and 3 Peadar Hurson was again fastest while the Escorts of Frank Kelly and Camillus Bradley were having a really close tussle for 2nd and 3rd places, but not posing a threat to the Subaru Impreza at the front. After 3 stages Hurson reported. `No real dramas but stage 3 was pretty tricky with lots of gravel in places`. When asked how his Subaru was going Peadar said. `It is a good car, we have done quite a bit of work to it. The dash read-out is working properly again, no worries`.

Both Frank Kelly and Camillus Bradley reported big dramas at the final corner of stage 3. Frank said that his Escort stalled, as he was braking so hard to get through the bales. He also reported a major moment on the long straight over the bumps and jumps in stage 2. He said the car was virtually on its headlights after some of the jumps. Reportedly at the same location Declan McNaughton had an accident when his Escort got out of control over the bumps. There was a spectator injured. Medical attention was quickly available and reports suggested there are no serious injuries.

Jon Armstrong really upped the pace through stages 2 and 3 to draw level with his rival Rob Duggan in the race for R2 honours. Jon was a few seconds down after stage 1. Kyle White has dropped a bit of time to his R2 rivals and reported his Citroen to be not handling well, possibly as a result of the earlier puncture. Clive Kilpatrick turned in a strong time through stage 3 to move into the group N lead from Simon Woodside. Ashley Dickson has recovered well from his delay in stage 2 and he is 3rd GpN. Shane McGirr is in 13th o/a and is still struggling with the handling of his Starlet rwd. He was able to do some adjustments to the suspension at the road side and said that the car is better, but not 100 per cent.

Another driver keeping a wary eye on the bumps and jumps is Seamus O`Connell and although he leads the Historic category in his lovely Escort, he told us that these bumps and jumps over narrow road with gravel at the side really does not suit him. Mark Donnelly is having a good run in his Lancer and reports no problems. Geoff McMahon had a major moment at the end of stage 3 when his Lancer skidded along a hedge. He reckoned that one of the rear suspension struts had cried enough following the bumps and jumps. Raymond Mason lost a bit of time with overshoots and he is in 25th o/a in his GpN Lancer. In fairness Raymond has not contested an asphalt rally for many years.
